YLS Helps Build Southwest Side Playground

Kaboom! The Young Leaders Society collaborated with Kaboom, a national non-profit dedicated to build playgrounds for communities, and the West Communities YMCA on Saturday May 5th to gift a southwest Chicago community with a playground. The playground’s design was based on drawings contributed by children from nearby families. As the volunteers joined forces to build, the kids painted beautiful and inspiring paintings to add to their playground. In less than eight hours an empty plot was transformed into a safe and fun play area. The fun-filled day at large contributed to the City of Chicago’s plan to reincorporate recess into the school schedule as part of the City’s effort to bring schools up to par with the rest of the nation. This post was submitted on behalf of Avni Danak, YLS General Member.
