April Food Day

Join South-Southwest United Way for April Food Day,
April 17, 2014!

Local food pantries estimate demands for food and toiletries have more than doubled in the past five years. Your donation benefits local township food pantries to help families and individuals throughout our region thrive.

Here’s what hunger looks like in Illinois and our communities:
– Over 1.9 million people are considered food insecure
– 38% of food insecure households do not qualify for federal food assistance
– 1,645,722 Illinois residents participated in the SNAP (food stamps) program in 2010
– In 2009, enrollment in free and reduced price school meals continued to climb. More than 770,000 Illinois children received lunch and 293,000 received breakfast
