I applied to be an AmeriCorps Member to have an opportunity to work in the Austin Community to help make a difference.
What Neighborhood Network are you placed with?
My Neighborhood Network is Austin working with lead partner Austin Coming Together.
What is your role as an AmeriCorps Member?
My role in my Neighborhood Network is Outreach Associate.
What have you learned in your role?
In my role as an Outreach Associate, I have learned the key components of an effective program. One must be patient, research, find the right constituents, create a foundation, establish who your members are and determine who your leaders are. Once you have created your support team, coordinate one on one meetings with your leaders and organizations to produce great relationships.
What do you want individuals to know about your Neighborhood Network community?
I would like people to know that my Neighborhood Network is awesome. We are very community driven and we empower and enhance the Austin Community through strong collaboration with key stakeholders and organizations.
What do you hope to accomplish during your year of service?
During my year of service, I would like to work with the Senior Citizens in the Austin Community and encourage them to use their gifts and talents to pour into the next generation of leaders. By working with the Senior Citizens I would be “reaching one to teach one.” Additionally, I would like to raise the profile of community resources so community residents know where they can go for help.
What were you doing prior to the AmeriCorps Program?
Prior to becoming an AmeriCorps Member, I was working as a Notary and taking care of my 77 year old mother.
