YLS Hosts Fireside Chat with a Chicago CEO

By: Tyler Guth, Lockton Inc. & YLS Volunteer Committee Member On Friday February 24, Jeff Malehorn, CEO of GE Capital hosted the inaugural Young Leaders Society (YLS) CEO Fireside Chat at the United Way office in downtown Chicago. The Fireside Chat was an opportunity for YLS Premier Members to gain insight into a CEO’s experience and perspective on community leadership in an intimate setting. Mr. Malehorn began with an overview of his own career growth, from GE’s financial training program to its CEO, and then took our questions. Members took the opportunity to pick Mr. Malehorn’s brain on everything from advice in our own careers to corporate responsibility. Reassuringly, Mr. Malehorn stressed the role that his own community involvement, via United Way and other organizations, has played in his personal and professional development. I really appreciated the insight into career growth within an organization that Mr. Malehorn was able to offer in reflection on his own climb, and the contagious energy with which he discussed it. I left the event, on a Friday morning, literally excited to get back to the office and challenge myself. A big thanks to Mr. Malehorn and YLS for hosting this great event. YLS Premier Membership is offered to those YLS Members who contribute an annual gift of $500 or more to United Way. YLS Premier Members enjoy access to leadership development opportunities, like CEO Fireside Chats, convenient volunteering, and exclusive receptions at YLS events.
