The Power of Women to Make a Difference

Members of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago Women’s Leadership Council gather for an event addressing the impact women have on education in our community.
United Way has always believed in the power of women to create lasting community change. In 2010 Women’s Leadership Councils have again given them reason to do so — collectively raising $132 million to support United Way in its efforts to bring about meaningful community change, a 10% increase over last years total. Chicago’s WLC is proud to be a part of this movement! Women continue to be a powerful force in the economy. Here are a few statistics that demonstrate the role they play:
– Women make 83% of all consumer purchases – Women — owned firms generate $1.9 trillion in annual sales and employ 13 million people nationwide – Women own 10.1 million privately-held, women-owned firms — over 40% of all businesses
Through a partnership with the Young Women’s Leadership Charter School, United Way of Metro Chicago’s WLC is focused on ensuring that the next generation of women in Chicago continues to be this powerful force. To read more about this partnership and support WLC’s effort click here.
