Top 10 Reasons Why to Give to United Way on #GivingTuesday

For the retail community Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicks off the holiday shopping season but #GivingTuesday marks the beginning off the charitable season. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy and has become a time when non profits can connect with their community and ask for their support.

So why should you give to United Way on #GivingTuesday? Here are the top 10 reasons:

1.) With 80 years of experience only United Way of Metro Chicago has the expertise, partnerships, scale and vision to take on the challenges that we face in our cities, suburbs and villages.

2.) We FIGHT for the ACA! Access to quality healthcare keeps Chicago region residents healthy, improves educational outcomes, job performance and creates more resilient families. We have been actively spreading the word that enrollment for the Affordable Care Act is underway now through December 15th and helping people sign up.

3.) We fight to ensure all kids have access to a quality education: From improving the 3rd grade reading level in Auburn-Gresham to reducing the achievement gap for African American and Hispanic youth in Evanston, United Way works with community partners to help kids succeed.

4.) United Way fights for the safety of every individual in every community: The Marshall Square Resource Network in the Little Village Neighborhood created the Peace Committee to address the issue of community and domestic violence.

5.) We know the people, politics and players and how to best coordinate them. United Way has community engagement staff that work in the neighborhoods so from city hall to corporate donors to neighborhood meetings United Way brings the right people to the table to address our neighborhoods toughest challenges.

6.) We focus on neighborhoods! We connect more people to services; we connect and coordinate neighborhood agencies. We call this our Neighborhood Network Initiative and it started in Brighton Park and has grown to 10 neighborhoods throughout the Chicago region.

7.) It takes a city, a suburb, a village United Together: United way recognizes that a child’s success starts at home. If a student’s family is struggling it will be harder for him or her to succeed. We support agencies who take a holistic approach to ensure the success of the whole family.

8.) We have a transparent process for accountability and results: We partner with and provide resources to established agencies within communities, who understand their needs best.

9.) Soldier field reaches capacity at 61,500 seats. That’s not enough to house United Way’s ever growing community of friends and supporters. Learn how you can meet friends and have fun while also supporting United Way or volunteer making a difference in the community.

10.) 82 % of your dollar goes directly to the cause. Our overhead is well below the industry standard of 35%

Because of these 10 reasons and hundreds more we ask you give on #GivingTuesday because only United Way of Metro Chicago has the expertise, partnerships, scale and vision to take on the challenges that we face in our communities. And when we Live United real change is possible. Join the Fight Today.

I give to United Way because my city need financial help for our youth. I am honored to be a part of this program to give back.
