Meet Bob Newman, a 2011-12 Tocqueville Society Chair
Director of Equity Research, William Blair & Company
Why do you give to United Way?
I believe in the organization, its vision (LIVE UNITED 2020) and the focus on community impact in three key areas: education, income and health.
As a Tocqueville Society Chair, how do you educate others on the value of giving to United Way?
Simply by talking about the things which have motivated me to be a TS Chair the last two years, our (William Blair) campaign chair for seven years (2004-2010) and a longtime individual donor. In addition, many of us have so much to be thankful for and with that comes responsibility to help others in the community who are less fortunate. United Way provides an efficient way to do this, by consolidating individual gifts into larger amounts that can then be allocated to those organizations doing the best work, with accountability and outcomes constantly reviewed and measured by United Way. Within the various levels of giving available through United Way, the Tocqueville Society is an opportunity for members to provide leadership in the broader effort.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Through my interest in scuba diving, I’ve seen over two hundred different types of salt water fish and creatures and have the pictures to prove it!
