Buchanan Grant & Baddeley Grant Opportunities for Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Nonprofits
Submitted on behalf of Mary Teeter, Development Manager at North Shore United Way.
North Shore United Way (NSUW) is excited to offer two grant opportunities to the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff communities on behalf of the Buchanan Family Fund and the Jean Youngs Baddeley Fund.
The Buchanan Fund Program was originally established by the Board of Directors of the United Way of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff (now NSUW) in June, 1988. The Fund makes one-year grants to support programs serving critical human service needs in the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff community, with special attention given to programs approaching these needs through innovative service responses.
Jean Youngs Baddeley was President of the United Way of Lake Forest / Lake Bluff. She is remembered for her energetic and compassionate commitment to many organizations and causes. United Way of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff received many generous contributions in Jean’s memory. The Board of Directors decided to designate to a special restricted fund to promote her particular interests — supporting youth and volunteerism through fostering positive activities and attitudes among young people.
The United Way Youth Board was established to help manage the new Baddeley Memorial fund. Today, the NSUW Youth Board hosts special events and fundraisers to support the Baddeley Fund, completes service projects for local nonprofits and awards grants to local youth programs in their community. In the spring, with the help of volunteers and United Way oversight, the NSUW Youth Board grants funds to organizations serving youth in crisis or at risk. With these grants, Jean’s spirit lives on through the youth in her community, Lake Forest/Lake Bluff.
The application deadline for both the Buchanan Family Fund Grant and the Baddeley Memorial Fund is Friday, April 13, 2012. All applicants must be 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.
