Back to School – Make An Impact in Education
No stranger to door-to-door campaigning, Mayor Emanuel spent Tuesday with CPS CEO Jean- Claude Brizard knocking on doors in Auburn — Gresham to remind families that Monday is the first day of school. As reported in this Huffington Post article, Emanuel and Brizard’s efforts are part of a CPS back to school campaign aimed at increasing school attendance. According to WGN News, attendance on the first day of school is only 89%. Emanuel and Brizard see first day attendance as setting the tone for a good year. In remarks on Tuesday, Emanuel also spoke about how he would like to see a longer school day as a standard across all schools in Chicago.
