$2.5M in Emergency Food & Shelter Program Grants Now Available

United Way of Metropolitan Chicago announced today that the federal government is expected to make almost $2.5 million in Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) grants available to nonprofit organizations and local government agencies in Chicago and suburban Cook and DuPage counties. United Way is the local administrator of EFSP investments which are made available yearly to supplement local emergency food and shelter programs in the region. United Way also chairs the local boards in charge of EFSP allocations. These funds are not associated with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) relief efforts. Applications may be obtained by e-mailing Shilpa Bavikatte, Local EFSP Administrator, at Shilpa.Bavikatte@uw-mc.org or mailing a request to United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, 560 W. Lake St., Chicago, IL, 60661. Applications must be received no later than July 23, 2012, at 5:00pm. Find  more information about EFSP here.

    Good Day, Ms. Matzke!

The Monroe Foundation would welcome an opportunity to convene a presentation with the United Way to help get the word out to faith-based groups in Chicago about the EFS. Is that possible to do? We can host the meeting in the Englewood community, and we would welcome the blessing to facilitate doing so.

I may be reached directly at (773) 315-9720. Our website is http://www.themonroefoundation.org

I look forward to a reply and partnering in the community opportunity.

How can we partner with the United Way to get the word out about the Emergency Food and Shelter Program to the churches and qualified groups?

    Thank You!

    Good Afternoon,
It has been very difficult to navigate your website and I have talked to someone that could not help me.
I am trying to get an updated emergency referral list that include numbers such as emergency services, suicide hotline, child abuse etc.
can you please send me an updated list.
