OFFICIAL UNITED WAY OF METROPOLITAN CHICAGO STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO GOVERNOR RAUNER’S 2017 STATE BUDGET ADDRESS
The Governor’s budget address represents the latest chapter in the state’s prolonged struggle to produce a full state budget, and demonstrates shortsightedness on the part of our leaders in the face of Illinois’s economic interests and the well-being of Illinoisans. Everyone in the state suffers when we are exporting talent and holding back families and neighborhoods that need resources by not funding higher education and human services, the primary budget areas decimated by the current inaction.
We urgently ask state leaders to counter what the Fitch Ratings report calls the “unprecedented failure” of Illinois state government with a full budget that adequately and reliably funds the services critical to our Illinois economy and citizenry.
